From John Sillifant to his ward Thomas Waters Sr. (May 5, 1822)

[John Sillifant to Thomas Waters, R.M.]

Addressed to Lieut.t Waters, R.M. Marchwood, near Southampton, Hants

Coombe, 5 May 1822

My Dear Mr Waters,

It is with the deepest grief I have to inform you of my affliction, by the Death of Mrs Sillifant after a long illness. My only support is from the Almighty, & I submit with humble resignation to His dispensations.

I received your letter in March & immediately applied to Mr Smith for the interest, But He has not yet received it. The moment I receive it, you may depend on my remitting it to you, but the distress of the Farmers is such, that it is with the utmost difficulty we can recover either rent or interest from them. It affords me great pleasure to hear you are so comfortably settled. It certainly must be a most desirable situation on very moderate Terms, in haste

I remain

      Yours sincerely
                       John Sillifant.
