Dear John

I supose you will be thinking I am never going to answer your letter but as Laura was writing to Janet I thought it was not worth while for me to write as she would give you all the news. well we have had a very mild open winter up to the first of this month had no snow but rain and mud it turned colder when February came in and there came a light fall of snow on the fourth and the weather turned cold we had some days last week that the glall [glass?] went 16 below zero with cold wind quite a change from what we had in January the most of the time it was from 20 to 30 above. teams are all busy now hauling there is five teams in the settlement hauling hemlock logs from Glenmore for the railroad. George has some to haul when he gets his other sledding done he has his wood all home and is hauling cordwood to the settlement. the stuff he has to haul for the railway is small it is what they call flooring poles they are 16 feet long 4 inches at top and he has them all out and yarded they are to haul about a mile he cut 9 hundred up the little brook where I had fields cleared and grain on them and some of the ground I had ploughed about fifty two years ago. now I do not know of very much more to write the folks are mostly well Ida was sick in bed with a bad cold for a day or two but she is better and able to be around now. I think I will close hoping this will find you all well as it leave us and hoping to hear from you soon again I will close with love to all
