Dear John
I supose it is about time I was answering your letter of the 9th we were glad to hear you are all well and that you had good luck with your colts and chickens. we have not got any young colts this year but they have a lot of chickens they had over seventy hatched but some of them Died and they sold some for broilers so I dont know how many they have now. you should take good care of that colt it might turn out like old Arch Fishers heighfer [heifer]. we have got comencd haying but have not got any help but a boy I do the raking with my colt he has grown well the last year and is quiet and not affraid of ottos [autos] we have got 12 loads in now and if the weather keeps fine this week we would be half done. George sent you a letter last week telling you that Charley Joudry was going out about the 11th of augest but he had a card from Charley since saying the excuscion [the harvest excursion] goes on the second of augest then he sent charly a card telling him your nearest station so you may see him sooner than you Expected. well John Death seems to be busy here lately Will Sedgwick Died very suddenly last thursday night he had been working in the hay field that day and went to bed pretty early. a team came that had some stuff for him he got out of bed went to the window and called to tell him where to leave it and turned arround and fell dead. his wife called to him but no answer. when some of the others came to the room with a light he was Dead he had never moved after he fell he was Burried yesterday there was a very large funeral Rachel Annand Died last friday night and is Burried this afternoon George and Laura are away to the funeral. your uncle Richard Bates was Burried the 24th of June Nettie is writing to Janet so she will tell some of the news so I will close hoping this will find you well as it leaves us with love to all from Father
