Dear John
I am going to try and write you a few lines this morning we have been having very cloudy damp weather for the last two weeks there is very little farming done yet our wheat is up and looking quite green we have not sown any oats yet the weather has been cool and cloudy we had quite a rain yesterday and last night. the Brook is raised quite a bit this morning and the wind is west looks like clearing today. your Mother would have written before this but she is not able she has been in bed now for a week the Dr was here to see her on Tuesday he said that she was threathened with conjestion and he does not allow her out of Bed wants her to keep quiet she has a very poor appetite and is very weak the most she complains of is weakness. Laura is going to write a few lines to Janet and she can explain thing better than I can. I have got my cold [colt] pretty well broke I can hich him up alone and drive him I have never drove him further than the settlement yet I drove him down the other day and the only thing he saw that he was afraid of was a boy on a Bike but I mad [made] him go up to it and then coming back I met him again so I think he will soon get used to things that he will not be easily scared. now I will leave the rest for Laura to write Hoping you are well I remain your Father
Laura says she will write soon
