Current Volunteer Opportunities
Job #1: Transcribing Letters
Do you have a little free time and some basic word processing skills? We need someone to transcribe hand-written letters into Word documents that can ultimately be added into the family digital archives. You’ll need a keen eye and an interest in learning a few simple guidelines recommended by the National Archives & Records Administration. Through this, you’ll not only learn more about the family, but you’ll learn how to notate historical documents for modern understanding.
Job #2: Editing Letters
These letters have been transcribed already from a variety of people and we want the transcriptions to be kept as close to the originals as possible, but some letters need a bit of light editing for readers to make sense of some passages. You’ll need a keen eye and an interest in learning a few simple guidelines recommended by the National Archives & Records Administration. Through this, you’ll not only learn more about the family, but you’ll learn how to notate historical documents for modern understanding.
Job #3: Uploading Letters to Website Archive
You will transfer letters from the transcribed Word documents by cut-and-paste into WordPress posts and do some simple tagging. It’s a bonus if you have any WordPress posting experience, but we can show you how to do it; it’s pretty simple. If you have an hour a week or more, we’d love to hear from you!
Job #4: Uploading Photographs to Website Archive
The same job as uploading letters, with a few different criteria. You will upload photographs from the One Drive database into WordPress posts and do some simple tagging. It’s a bonus if you have any WordPress posting experience, but we can show you how to do it; it’s pretty simple. If you have an hour a week or more, we’d love to hear from you!
