[John Sillifant to Thomas Waters. R.M.]

Addressed to Lieut.t Waters, R.M. on board HMS Maidstone, Spithead, Portsmouth.

Coombe, 27 March 1824

My Dear Mr Waters,

I hope this Letter will reach you before you sail from Spithead, as it is to assure you that your request respecting the remittance to Mrs Waters shall be regularly attended to, and that you have my sincere good wishes for your health & happiness. I am very happy to observe your just remark, trust on an universal & merciful providence, without a trust & confidence in whom we must he [be] miserable. It is in this only, that we can be supported in the various trials, & vicisitudes to which we are all subject. Let us do our Duty, & then submit with humble resignation to his dispensations.–

If during your absence you should have an opportunity of writing, I should be most happy to hear from you. My family all join with me in kind regards & best wishes for your safe return, & believe me

My Dear Mr Waters

Yours very sincerely
       John Sillifant.
