Dear John
I recieved your letter of Dec 19th and would have answered it before this but Laura was writing and I thought that would do without me writing then. well we are having very mild winter so far the coldest we have had yet was ten above zero one morning last week. we have had very little snow yet we had a light fall of snow on the 5 of Dec and very good sleighing for a few days it went off and we have not had any sleighing since. we had a big rain storm a few days before Xymas and the ground all thawed out but it has froze up since. it is very mild and soft like to day. Tom came home the Friday before Xymas he and George & Laura and the children have gone to Chasswood to day and I am alone with the dog and the cats. we had Xymas at home this year and Wills youngsters were up in the evening Will and Ida went down to Libbys in Kings County for to spend thier Xymas they got back last Thursday. there is nothing new arround here to write about I dont know if Laura wrote about Weldon Dickeys wife being dead. Geordie Dickey has a young son. I had a letter from Morris not long ago they have a young son born the first of November. Nettie was home this summer she got her leg bruised before she went back and has been laid up with it since and she is not able to go to work yet she is staying at Lizzes [Lizzie’s] we heard from them all at Xymas but Eds folks they never write but we hear from them through Lizze and Nettie they were to see them after Nettie went back. now I dont know of any thing more to write at present so I will hav to close this with hoping that you have had a Merry Xymas and a happy new year. give my love to Janet and the children hoping to hear from you soon again
I remain your Father
