Dear Bro. John
Now it is quite a while since I wrote to you but it is longer since I had a letter from you. I was down in Hartford for five weeks after I left home. I suppose you knew that Aggie had got a boy at last. She calls it Harold Emerson. And of course there is no other boy in town like that one. I guess George thinks that Mary Joyce is about the best girl there is around It is three weeks on Saturday since I came to Providence. Came right here and went to work. There are just three in the family, two old maids and an old bachelor brother, all over seventy years of age. So there are no children to bother with. They keep two girls I am the cook and Margaret Cox, Duncan Cox’s daughter from South Branch N.S. is the second girl. We get along very aggreeably together. The last word I had from home Squire Archibald was very sick, just alive and that was all. Charlie and Maggie were home, that was about three weeks ago. I looked for a letter from home this morning, but didn’t get it. Well tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day here. The family all go out to dinner and Margaret and I have the day to ourselves–guess we will have to go out and see what we can find to do. She is out this afternoon and I go Friday afternoon. Four weeks from next Sunday is Christmas It dont seem long since last Christmas. Lizzie has gone to Saint Margaret’s Hospital to take a training in surgical work I think most likely Millie will go too. she is in New York at present. Well left this letter to get the supper and now I will try to finish it up. The last cook they had here was married three weeks ago today to Mr. George Dunbrack of Meagher’s Grant. That makes the third cook that has left here in last two years and got married–so maybe I will stand a chance of finding a man if I stay here. Well I guess I must bring this letter to a close as I must write to Millie tonight.
